Shami underwent successful heel surgery in London on Monday.

Shami had suffered a heel injury during the ODI World Cup in October-November last year. Shami was rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy since the World Cup.

After the surgery, Shami will have to remain on rest for about 3 to 4 months. After this he will start practice and will be able to play matches only after getting fitness clearance from NCA. This may take 6 to 8 months.

According to news agency PTI, after the surgery, Shami will not be able to play IPL as well as T20 World Cup. It is difficult for him to be fit even for the Bangladesh and New Zealand series to be held in September-October. However, BCCI is hopeful that Shami can be a part of the Test series against Australia at the end of the year.

Shami was in London for 3 weeks

Shami had gone to London in the last week of January. Where he took special injections for his ankle. Doctors told him that he could start running after 3 weeks. If he feels well, he can also start bowling after running. The injection did not show as much effect as expected. In such a situation, Shami was left with no other option except undergoing surgery.
