Mohammed Shami will not play IPL and T20 World Cup
Will go to UK for ankle surgery
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not be able to play IPL and T20 World Cup this year. He will go to UK to undergo surgery for ankle injury. He had taken injections in London, but they did not affect the body. For this reason now surgery will have to be done.
Shami plays for Gujarat Titans in IPL. According to PTI, he will be fit after the surgery by November this year.
Shami was in London for 3 weeks
Shami had gone to London in the last week of January. Where he took special injections for his ankle. Doctors told him that he could start running after 3 weeks. If he feels well, he can also start bowling after running.
A BCCI official told PTI, 'The injection did not show as much effect as expected. In such a situation, Shami was left with no other option except undergoing surgery. He will go to UK after a few days to undergo surgery. In such a situation, one cannot even think of playing IPL.
Mohammed Shami played his last cricket match on 19 November 2023.
Shami played the ODI World Cup despite the injury, but after the tournament ended, he could not play any cricket match. He rehabbed at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Shami got the injections done on the suggestion of NCA, but now he could not recover.
If Shami had got advice from NCA for surgery only after the ODI World Cup, he would have been fit till the T20 World Cup. Then he would need injections after surgery and he would return to the field within 3 to 4 months.

According to PTI, after the surgery, Shami will not be able to play IPL as well as T20 World Cup. It is difficult for him to be fit even for the Bangladesh and New Zealand series to be held in September-October. However, BCCI is hopeful that Shami can be a part of the Test series against Australia at the end of the year.

Shami was the top wicket-taker of the World Cup
Mohammed Shami played the ODI World Cup in October and November last year despite injury. He took maximum 24 wickets in 7 matches of the tournament. With this, he became the first Indian bowler to take more than 50 wickets in the World Cup.
