MS Dhoni's CSK beat GT in the final to win a record-equalling fifth IPL title

 

With the help of Ravindra Jadeja's four on the last ball, Chennai Super Kings equaled Mumbai Indians' record of winning the most IPL titles. Sai Sudarshan scored 96 runs in just 47 balls to take Gujarat Titans to a score of 214/4.

The 23-year-old from Chennai hit eight fours and six sixes in his innings and made the most of the death overs. Earlier, Wriddhiman Saha scored a 39-ball 54 on the day when his flamboyant opening partner Shubman Gill was dismissed for a 20-ball 39. There was only light drizzle during the entire GT innings, which did not cause any interruption. However, heavy rain forced the stadium to stop after the third ball of the first over of CSK's innings.

While the rain itself did not last long, it was the wet outfield, particularly a problematic practice pitch at the edge of the square that caused the biggest delay. In the end, the match was reduced to 15 overs and CSK's target was revised to 171. Big-hitting from Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Ambati Rayudu helped CSK but Mohit Sharma came up with crucial wickets whenever the opposition looked like it we're running out of it. Mohit also bowled the last over and CSK needed 10 runs from the last two balls to win. But Ravindra Jadeja gave CSK the fifth title by hitting a six on the second last ball and a four on the last ball.
