Mumbai Won By 8 Wickets: Ashwani’s Dream Debut Took 4 Wickets

The TATA IPL 2025's Match 12 sees the Mumbai Indians (MI) defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a commanding eight wickets at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. With their first victory of the season, MI's position in the standings was greatly enhanced.

MI captain Hardik Pandya chose to bowl first after winning the toss, and it was a wise choice. In the first over, Sunil Narine was clean bowled for a duck by Trent Boult. Quinton de Kock was then dismissed by Deepak Chahar for one, which caused KKR to struggle right away. Then, debutant Ashwani Kumar made an instant impression by taking skipper Ajinkya Rahane's valuable wicket with his first IPL ball. When the power play ended, KKR was in a  41/4 position.​

Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who hit 26 off 16 balls, provided some short-term resistance, but the middle and lower order of KKR crumbled under constant pressure. With his remarkable final statistics of 4/24, the second-best by a MI bowler on debut, Ashwani Kumar played a key role in this defeat. In the end, KKR was dismissed for a respectable 116 in 16.2 overs.​

Ryan Rickelton 62 runs inning, MI won in just 12.5 overs

MI openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma laid a strong platform with a 46-run partnership as they chased a goal of 117. Rickelton maintained his excellent form, going undefeated at 62 off 41 balls, despite Rohit being removed for 13 by Andre Russell. He helped MI win easily with four boundaries and five sixes in his innings. Suryakumar Yadav completed the victory with a stunning six over the wicket keeper's head after adding a quickfire 27 off 9 balls. MI finished at 121/2 after reaching the goal in just 12.5 overs.
