Mushfiqur Rahim Announces Retirement From ODI Cricket

Mushfiqur Rahim, an expert cricket player and former captain of Bangladesh, has announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket, after an outstanding 19-year career. "I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today," the 36-year-old batsman and wicket keeper wrote on his official Facebook page on March 5. Thank God for everything.

A Key Part of Bangladeshi Cricket

Mushfiqur Rahim has accomplished a lot during his ODI career. His 7,795 runs at an average of 36.42 in 274 matches make him Bangladesh's second-highest ODI run scorer. He has nine hundred and forty-nine half-centuries in his amazing total. He is one of just five wicket keepers in the world to have played in more than 250 ODIs. He ranks fourth among wicket keepers with seven hundreds, behind greats like MS Dhoni, Adam Gilchrist, and Kumar Sangakkara.

Mushfiqur first gained international attention during the 2007 World Cup, where he played a pivotal role in Bangladesh's historic victory over India in Trinidad, scoring a match-winning fifty. Over the years, he became renowned for his resilience and dependability, earning the nickname "Mr. Dependable" among fans and teammates.

Why does he make this decision?

Mushfiqur’s recent performance during Champions trophy 2025 was poor. When Bangladesh struggled, he failed to deliver single match winning innings in that tournament. His poor performance against India and New Zealand. His last ODI century was against Sri Lanka in March 2024.
