New Zealand beats Pakistan by 21 runs: Allen's explosive fifty
New Zealand has taken a 2-0 lead in the series by winning the first two T20s.
New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 21 runs in the second T20. New Zealand batted first at the Seddon Park Stadium in Hamilton. The team scored 194 runs for 8 wickets. Pakistan team could score only 173 runs in 19.3 overs.
Opener Finn Allen from New Zealand played an explosive inning of 74 runs on 41 balls. Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman from Pakistan scored fifties but both could not make their team win.
With the win in the second T20, New Zealand has taken a 2-0 lead in the 5-match series. The third T20 match will be played in Dunedin on 17 January.
Pakistan won the toss and chose bowling
Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first in Hamilton on Sunday. Openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway got New Zealand off to a fast start. Both of them took the team's score to 59 runs in just 5 overs. Conway was out after scoring 20 runs in the sixth over.
Kane Williamson, who came at number-3, led the innings with Allen. Both of them took the team beyond 100 runs and also made a fifty partnership. Allen was out after scoring 74 runs and the partnership between the two broke.
Williamson retired hurt
While batting on 26 runs, Williamson retired hurt and returned to the pavilion. He was feeling strain in his leg muscles. Daryl Mitchell came to bat in his place but he was out after scoring only 17 runs.
After Mitchell, Glenn Phillips returned to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs and Mark Chapman scored 4 runs. Whereas Adam Milne and Ish Sodhi could not even open the account.
Santner crossed 190
Mitchell Santner, who could not play the first match due to being infected with Corona, scored 25 runs in the second T20. He played just 13 balls and took the team's score beyond 190 runs. Santner hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in the innings. New Zealand scored 194 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Haris Rauf took 3 wickets from Pakistan. Abbas Afridi got 2 successes. While Aamer Jamal and Usama Mir got 1-1 wicket.
Bad start for pakistan
Pakistan had a bad start while chasing the target of 195 runs. The team lost the wickets of the openers in the very second over. Sam Ayyub could score only one run and Mohammad Rizwan could score only 7 runs. Adam Milne and Tim Southee got 1-1 wicket.
Fakhar-Babar made a partnership of 87 runs
After the early fall of the first two wickets, Babar Azam took the innings forward with Fakhar Zaman. Both of them took the team beyond 50 runs and also made a fifty partnership among themselves. Fakhar was out after scoring 50 runs in 25 balls and the partnership of 87 runs between the two was broken.
Pakistan lost wickets continuously
Pakistan could not recover after losing 3 wickets for 97 runs. The team lost wickets continuously. Iftikhar Ahmed 4, Azam Khan 2 and Aamer Jamal were out after scoring only 9 runs.
Babar was out after scoring 66 runs, the team could not win.
Babar Azam scored a fifty and took the team beyond 150 runs. He was out in the 17th over after scoring 66 runs and the team's hopes of winning were also dashed. After Babar, Shaheen Afridi was out after scoring 22 runs, while Usama Mir could not even open the account.
Third T20 on Wednesday
New Zealand had defeated Pakistan by 46 runs in the first T20. Now with the win in the second T20, New Zealand has taken a 2-0 lead in the series. The third T20 match will be played in Dunedin on 17 January. The fourth match will be held on January 19 and the fifth match will be held on January 21, both matches will be played in Christchurch.
