The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rescheduled two matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, scheduled to be held at Eden Gardens on April 17, will now be played on April 16. At the same time, the match between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals to be held on April 16 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will now be held on April 17.
This change has happened at the behest of Kolkata Police. Actually, Kolkata Police had told Bengal Cricket Association that Ram Navami is on 17th April and voting for Lok Sabha elections is on 19th April, two days later. Due to this, we will not be able to provide much force for security on 17th April. A decision has not yet been taken on the tickets already sold for both the rescheduled matches.
BCCI had released the schedule in 2 phases
BCCI had released the schedule of Indian Premier League-2024 in phase 2. It was stopped due to Lok Sabha elections. The board said that the second phase of the current season of the league will start on April 8 with a night match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. This match will be played at the home ground Chepauk ground in Chennai. The final of this season will be played on 26 May in Chennai.
IPL 2024 to end by last week of May
With the aim of allowing India to get accustomed to very different conditions ahead of the global extravaganza, the IPL is looking at wrapping up the tournament by May 25 or 26.
This could result in increased workloads for players as Dhumal indicated that the number of double-headers may need to be increased in order to complete the tournament by the scheduled date.
“We might have to increase double-headers, but we will be able to give better clarity once the polls are over,” he said.
