IND vs SL: Rohit-Kohli, Bumrah may get rest from Sri Lanka tour
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah played their last international match for India on 29 June in the form of the T20 World Cup final.
BCCI may give rest to senior players of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup last week, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah from the Sri Lanka tour. A young team like the Zimbabwe tour can be sent on the Sri Lanka tour starting from 27 July. Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul can be given the captaincy of the ODI team.
PTI claimed that the Indian selectors are considering giving rest to the senior players of the world champion team. If this happens, then all three Indian players will be on rest for about 80 days. Because after the Sri Lanka tour, India will directly face Bangladesh on 19 September. The Indian team is going on a Sri Lanka tour from 27 July, here the team has to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20s.
The final of the T20 World Cup was played on 29 June
Rohit, Kohli and Bumrah played their last match in the final of the T20 World Cup on 29 June last month. If these three do not go on the Sri Lanka tour, then they will be a part of the Indian tour of Bangladesh from 19 September, that is, all three players will get a break of about 80 days.
The Indian team won the T20 World Cup after 2007 by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final match. Not only this, with this victory, the team won an ICC trophy after 2013.
Why rest for the seniors?
After the Indian tour of Bangladesh starting from 19 September, Team India's schedule is very busy. After Bangladesh, the team has to play 3 Tests against New Zealand, 5 Tests against Australia and 5 T20s, 3 ODIs against England. Not only this, the Indian team also has to participate in the Champions Trophy in February-March. In such a situation, the selectors can give rest to Rohit-Kohli Bumrah under workload management.
Rahul or Pandya can captain
After Rohit Sharma's retirement, India is yet to choose a new captain in the T20 format. Hardik Pandya is currently leading this race. He can also be made the captain of the ODI team on the Sri Lanka tour. However, wicketkeeper batsman KL Rahul can also lead the team in ODIs on this tour.
