Pakistan cricket's search for a foreign coach is far from over. Former Australian all-rounder and former West Indies captain Darren Sammy has rejected the offer to become the next coach of the national team. Sammy cited to the PCB that he has a contract with the West Indies Cricket Board as he is the head coach of the Caribbean team in limited overs cricket.
Watson rejected the offer received by the Pakistan Board and returned home on Saturday night. It was learned from a source that the senior PCB official had a detailed discussion with Watson during the PSL matches in Karachi and he was offered the post of head coach.
Watson refused for this reason
"Watson showed initial interest and placed certain financial and other conditions for accepting the proposal," the source said. But Watson did not like the board's proposal and the former Australian all-rounder was not happy with the proposed package, which was also leaked in Pakistani media and social media. Watson then politely rejected the offer and said that he had prior contracts in the IPL and the American League. Apart from this, he wanted to spend time with his family in Sydney.
Watson was going to get this much amount
The PCB had reportedly agreed to pay Watson US$2 million annually. PCB will now have to go to an interim facility. Pakistan team has to play a series of five T20 International matches against New Zealand at home from 14th April. Before this, the training camp of the national team will be organized in Kakul from 25 March to 8 April.
The source said, "The team of local coaches will be prepared on an interim basis for the camp and New Zealand series. This is the only option available to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. A decision on this will be taken after the PSL final."
Foreign coach needed for a long time
Naqvi made it clear that he wants to appoint a long-term foreign coach for the national team, who will accompany him in the T20 World Cup in West Indies and America and the Champions Trophy next year. The source said that the names of former Pakistani captain Younis Khan, Mohammad Yusuf, Inzamam ul Haq and Moin Khan can be considered.
