Out of the team due to back injury

Shreyas Iyer will not be able to play the quarter-final match of Ranji Trophy. Recently, BCCI took strict action against the players who did not play Ranji Trophy and wrote a warning letter to them. Shreyas did not play the 7th round of Ranji for Mumbai and now he is out of the knockout match due to injury.

Iyer is out due to a back injury. Shivam Dubey, who made his T20 debut for Team India, is also injured. He will also not be able to play Mumbai's match against Baroda. Mumbai have included 19-year-old all-rounder Musheer Khan for the knockout stage.

Shreyas played one Ranji match this season

The knockout matches of the elite group in Ranji Trophy will start from 23 February. Mumbai qualified by topping Group B. Shreyas could play only one match for the team in January. After this, he was seen playing 2 tests against England with Team India.

After poor performance in the first 2 matches, he was dropped from the team for the last 3 Tests. Despite this, he did not play the team's last round match in Ranji since 16 February. Now he has also been ruled out of the quarter-finals due to a back injury, Shreyas Iyer played only one match in this season of Ranji Trophy. He had scored 48 runs.

Did not play IPL last season due to back injury

Shreyas could not even play the 2023 IPL season due to a back injury. In his place, Nitish Rana took command of the Kolkata Knight Riders team. However, the team could not qualify in the top-4.

Even after IPL, Shreyas could not return to the cricket field till August. He got a place in the Asia Cup squad, but could play only 2 matches. Then in the ODI World Cup, he took the number-4 position and scored 530 runs by scoring 2 centuries.

Shreyas again made it to the Test team and played both the matches on the South Africa tour. He again got a chance to play Test against England, but due to not being able to score even a single fifty in 4 consecutive Tests, he was dropped from the team.

Shreyas gets Rs 3 crore annually

Shreyas comes under the central contract of BCCI, he gets a salary of Rs 3 crore every year. In such a situation, if he is fit and is not playing for Team India, then he will have to play matches against his home team. Despite being fit, Shreyas did not play the match on 16 February. Now he was out of the quarter-finals due to injury.

BCCI Secretary had given a warning to the players

Recently, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah had given a warning to the players after not playing domestic cricket. He had written a letter saying that if the players are not playing domestic cricket despite being fit, then action will be taken against them.

Recently, players like Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan and Deepak Chahar did not play Ranji Trophy matches despite being fit. Most of the players did not give priority to domestic cricket as they were busy in IPL preparations.
