Shubman Gill Appointed Vice-Captain for Asia Cup 2025 India Squard
Updated - 19-AUG-2025 10:18 IST

A major announcement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member squard for the Asia Cup 2025. BCCI has selected Shubman Gill as the vice-captain of the Twenty20 International side for the Asia Cup 2025 schedule from September 9 to September 28 in the United Arab Emirates. The 25-year-old opener will support skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
Leadership Call
Gill's rise to popularity in Indian cricket is reflected in his appointment as vice captain. He is a logical choice for leadership because of his ability to anchor innings and his calm demeanor, which go beyond his batting consistency. It seems that the BCCI is preparing him to be a long-term limited-overs cricket leader.
Absence of Yashasvi Jaiswal And Shreyas Iyer
The absence of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, who were both playing well during the IPL, from the selection announcement has caused some controversy. Their failure suggests that, in preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup, India will focus on developing a younger core of leaders and trying out new lineups.
