The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hosts the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), India's top domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, every year. The competition has featured the best of India's local T20 talent since its launch in 2006–07.
Many state teams have won the prized trophy over the years, and some have established themselves as consistent challengers.

Evolution of SMAT
The SMAT, formerly known as the Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament, swiftly developed into India's most important domestic T20 competition. It has been essential in giving emerging players a stage on which to shine and advance to more prestigious venues like the Indian national team and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
