Sri Lanka announced new test captain: Dhananjay de Silva got the responsibility in place of Dimuth Karunaratne.
Dhananjay de Silva has a test match series against Afghanistan in February as captain.
After T20 and ODI, Sri Lanka Cricket has also changed the captain of the Test team. Dhananjay de Silva has been given the command of the Test team in place of Dimuth Karunaratne. Sri Lankan cricket team's chief selector Upul Tharanga has confirmed the change of captain of the Test team.
Earlier, separate captains were appointed for the home T20 and ODI series against Zimbabwe starting from January 6. The command of ODI was handed over to Kusal Mendis and the responsibility of T20 was handed over to Wanindu Hasaranga.
De Silva is the 18th Test captain of Sri Lanka
Dhananjay de Silva is the 18th captain of the Sri Lankan Test team. Dhananjay de Silva has scored 3301 runs at an average of 39.77 in 51 Test matches played so far for Sri Lanka. He also scored 100 centuries and 13 half-centuries.

Whereas Dimuth Karunaratne took over the captaincy of Sri Lanka Test in 2019. He has captained Sri Lanka in 30 Test matches, in which the team won 12 and lost 12. There were 6 matches drawn. Under his captaincy, the Sri Lankan team became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Africa by winning the Test series in South Africa in 2019.
Karunaratne's average in Tests as captain is better than the overall average
Whereas Karunaratne played 30 matches as captain and scored 2643 runs at an average of 49.86. Which also includes 8 centuries and 12 half-centuries. Whereas for Sri Lanka, he scored 6631 runs in 88 matches at an average of 40.93.
The only test is to be played against Afghanistan in February
Sri Lanka has to play a test match against Afghanistan in February. This test is to be held from 6th February. After that, Sri Lanka has to tour England in August, where it has to play a three-Test series.
