Sri Lanka created history by defeating India by 110 runs in the third ODI. With this, the team also achieved the feat of defeating India in the ODI series after 27 years. The team had last won the ODI series against India in 1997.
The biggest reason for India's defeat in the series was poor batting. Apart from this, the team was also defeated by too much experimentation and Sri Lanka's spin bowling. In the ODI series, Sri Lanka Dunith Vellalaage outperformed Team India in both batting and bowling. In the third ODI too, Vellalaage turned the game around, he could score only 2 runs, but took 5 wickets by giving just 27 runs in bowling.
