Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Delhi by 9 runs in the 40th match of Indian Premier League-16. This is Hyderabad's first win after 5 consecutive defeats on Delhi. The team defeated Delhi in its own home ground. This is Hyderabad's third win this season, while Delhi's sixth defeat.

Batting first after winning the toss at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Hyderabad scored 197 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Chasing a target of 198 runs, the Delhi batsmen could manage only 188 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.

• Abhishek Sharma innings went to bat first after winning the toss and Hyderabad had lost 2 wickets in the beginning. From here, Abhishek Sharma kept one end and took the team's score to 100 in 10 overs. He scored 67 runs in 36 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six.

• Partnership of Klaasen-Samad Heinrich Klaasen partnered with Abdul Samad after the wicket of Abhishek in the 12th over. Both added 53 runs and took the team's score beyond 160. Klaasen stayed till the end, remaining not out on 53 and taking the team's score to 197.

• Chasing the target of 198 runs on the wicket of Salt-Marsh, Delhi lost the wicket of David Warner in the very first over. From here Mitchell Marsh and Phil Salt scored a partnership of 112 runs at a rate of more than 10 runs. But in the 12th over, Mayank Markande took a brilliant catch on his own bowling and sent Salt to the pavilion. After Salt, Delhi kept losing wickets, Marsh was also dismissed in the 14th over and the team remained 9 runs away from the target.
