Syed Mohsin Naqvi is the new chairman of PCB

Took charge in place of Zaka Ashraf; Ashraf resigned last month

Syed Mohsin Naqvi has been elected as the new chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday, February 6. Naqvi is the 37th chairman of PCB. He has taken over this post in place of Zaka Ashraf.

Zaka Ashraf had resigned after chairing the Managing Committee meeting in Lahore on January 19. Since then the chairman's chair in the board was vacant. Ashraf took charge in place of Najam Sethi in July 2023. His tenure was to end in February this year.

Naqvi, 45, is currently the acting Chief Minister of Punjab. He was nominated to the Board of Governors for the position vacated by Ashraf.

Ashraf the head of the interim committee, got an extension of three months

Zaka Ashraf was the head of the Interim Committee (IMC), from where he was made the interim president. Along with Ashraf, it was the responsibility of the IMC members to form the Board of Governors and conduct elections for the post of Chairman in the Board. However, this did not happen so he was given an extension of three months, which was to be completed this month. Even before this Ashraf had resigned.

Naqvi is also part of the 10-member IMC. Apart from Naqvi, the other nine members of the IMC are Kaleem Ullah Khan, Ashfaq Akhtar, Muhammad Musadiq Islam, Azmat Pervez, Zaheer Abbas, Khawaja Nadeem, Mustafa Ramde, Zulfikar Malik and Khurram Karim Somru.

Turmoil continues in the board after the World Cup

Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn and Andrew Puttick also recently resigned from their posts. In April 2023, Mickey Arthur was appointed the director of the Pakistan men's cricket team. Bradburn was announced as the head coach of the team early last year. Former South African cricketer Andrew Puttick was the batting coach of Pakistan since April 2023.
