Tamim Iqbal Announces Retirement From International Cricket

The outstanding opening batsman and former captain of Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal, has declared his retirement from international cricket effective January 10, 2025. Recently news came that Is Tamim Iqbal is going to be back in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025?. His last resignation in July 2023 was reversed within 24 hours after Bangladesh's then-prime leader, Sheikh Hasina, intervened. This is his second retirement. 

International Career

With more than 15,000 runs in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, Tamim is the only cricketer from Bangladesh to have scored hundreds in all three formats of the game. He also has the most international runs of any Bangladeshi player, with 25 international centuries, which is more than any other batsman from the country.

Reversed Retirement

Tamim first declared his retirement from international cricket in July 2023, but he changed his mind the day following after meeting with Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh. In August 2023, he left as ODI skipper after taking some time to recover from a back issue.

He Will Continue To Play Domestic Matches

Tamim has continued to play domestic cricket after his retirement from international matches. He most famously led Barisal to victory in the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and won Player of the Tournament.

Retirement Announce

"I haven't played international cricket in a while," Tamim said in an emotional Facebook post. My career as an international cricket player is over.. Ahead of the forthcoming Champions Trophy, he made clear he did not want the team's attention to be diverted by talk about him.
