Before the highly awaited start of the UAE T20 tri-series in Sharjah, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan asked for peace and respect between Afghan and Pakistani supporters. As the Asia Cup 2025 cricket schedule nears, the tri-series between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the UAE is being viewed as an important training ground.
On and off the field, Afghanistan and Pakistan's rivalry has grown more intense over time. In previous encounters, there have been violent arguments between players and crowd trouble in the stands. But Rashid stressed that cricket, not rivalry, should continue to be the major focus.

“My message to everyone who comes and watches the games in the stadium is that cricket brings unity," Rashid said. "It brings people and nations together. It sends a peaceful message. This game is all about enjoyment. We play this game to enjoy ourselves and give entertainment to the crowd and the fans. It's just a game of cricket. I ask people to come, enjoy themselves, support their respective teams, and enjoy every moment of the game”.
