Uganda qualified for T-20 World Cup: Finished in top-2 in the qualifiers of Africa Region, Namibia will also play; zimbabwe out
African country Uganda has qualified for the T-20 World Cup to be held next year. The team has been in the top-2 in the qualifiers of Africa Region. Ugandan team will play ICC World Cup for the first time.
Uganda has become the 5th country in Africa to qualify for the World Cup. Apart from Uganda, Namibia has also got tickets for the World Cup to be held in West Indies and America. The T20 World Cup will be played in West Indies and America from June 6, 2024.
Won the last qualifier match by 9 wickets
Uganda defeated Rwanda by 9 wickets in their last match in the Africa Region Qualifier. With this victory, the team confirmed its place in the top-2 of the points table of the tournament. Earlier, the team defeated Kenya by 33 runs, Nigeria by 9 wickets, Zimbabwe by 5 wickets and Tanzania by 8 wickets. The team faced a 6-wicket defeat against Namibia.
The team secured a place in the top-2 of the points table by winning 5 out of 6 matches. Namibia remained on top by winning all the matches.
Zimbabwe was out of the league stage last year
Zimbabwe was out of the league stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup. The team could not get tickets for the ODI World Cup played last month. Earlier, the team could not play the 2021 World Cup due to ICC ban. Not only this, the team did not even qualify for the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Zimbabwe will not play the third T20 World Cup
Zimbabwe will not play the third T20 World Cup. The team could not qualify for the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cup. Moreover, they also could not take part in the 2021 T20 World Cup as Zimbabwe Cricket was banned by ICC at that time due to government interference in the board, while the team was eliminated in the first round in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
All teams playing World Cup decided
With Uganda's victory, all the 20 teams participating in the T20 World Cup have been decided. For this, Nepal and Oman have qualified from the Asian region, while Uganda and Namibia from Africa have got the World Cup ticket.
West Indies and America qualified due to being hosts, while England, Pakistan, New Zealand, India, Australia, South Africa, Netherlands and Sri Lanka had secured their places by finishing in the top-8 in the last T20 World Cup in 2022. Afghanistan and Bangladesh have qualified from the ranking of 14 November 2022.
20 teams in World Cup for the first time
For the first time, 20 teams will participate in the T-20 World Cup. Earlier, 12 teams participated in the 4 World Cups played from 2007 to 2012 and 16 teams participated in the 4 World Cups played from 2014 to 2022.
These 20 teams will be divided into 4 groups. The eight top-2 teams from the four groups of 5 teams each will advance to the next round. 8 teams will be divided into 2 groups of 4 each. Top 2-2 teams these groups will reach the semi-final stage. The team that wins the semi-finals will play the final and the team that wins it will be the winner of the 20-team tournament.
