Before the 2026 Women's Premier League (WPL), the reigning Mumbai Indians (MI) have made a big coaching staff addition by hiring former Australian leg-spinner Kristen Beams as their spin bowling coach.

Beams Career Highlights

Beams, 41, had a successful international career with Australia, playing in 45 Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) games and representing her nation in a variety of forms, including one Test, 30 ODIs, and 18 T20Is. She showed her skill as a leg-spinner during her playing days by becoming the third-highest wicket-taker at the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup.

Beams has built up an exceptional coaching resume after quitting professional cricket. She has coached the Australia Women's Under-19 squad, worked in major T20 tournaments like the WBBL and The Hundred, and held important development positions within Cricket Australia. Her background offers insightful knowledge about player development and spin bowling strategies, which MI hopes will improve their spin unit for the next season.

Beams on the Opportunity

Beams welcomed her new position by highlighting the Mumbai Indians' strong culture and the desire to collaborate with some of the most well-known names in women's cricket. She expressed excitement about helping the club succeed in the forthcoming season and lauded the team's supportive atmosphere and winning mindset.

Looking Ahead to WPL 2026

The 28-day WPL 2026 season, which will take place in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara, is scheduled to begin on January 9. Mumbai Indians, the two-time winners of the first three tournaments, will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru to start their campaign.
