The final match of the first season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) will be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai today. The match between table toppers Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians will start at 7:30 PM. Both teams will be face to face for the third time in the tournament. Earlier, once in the league stage, Mumbai and Delhi won once.
Delhi topped the points table
Delhi Capitals, captained by Meg Lanning, topped the points table of 5 teams with 12 points. Due to this the team directly reached the finals. Only teams from Gujarat and Mumbai could beat Delhi once in the tournament. Delhi won all the other matches.
Team captain Meg Lanning is the top run scorer of the tournament. Marian Cap won many matches for Delhi with his all-rounder performance. Apart from these, Alice Capsey, Shefali Verma, Jemima Rodriguez, Jess Jonassen, Tara Norris and Shikha Pandey are also the top players of the team.
Mumbai beat UP in Eliminator
Mumbai also won 6 matches in the league stage of the tournament, but due to low net run rate, the team finished second behind Delhi. They had to play an eliminator match against UP Warriors. In the Eliminator, the team showed a one-sided game and won the match by 72 runs.
In the league stage, the team had to face defeat in one match each against UP and Delhi. The rest of the matches were won by the team. Natalie Siever Brunt and Haley Mathews are the top 2 performers of the team. Apart from these, Saika Ishaq, Isabel Wong and Amelia Kerr have also performed well in bowling. Out of the top-5 bowlers of the tournament, 4 are from Mumbai only.
Both won the match while chasing
In the league stage, the first match between Mumbai and Delhi took place on 9 March. Batting first at the DY Patil Stadium, Delhi was all out for 105. Mumbai won the match by 8 wickets in 15 overs. On March 20, again there was a fight between the two at the DY Patil Stadium. This time Mumbai could only manage 109 runs in 20 overs. Delhi achieved the target by losing one wicket in just 9 overs.
Both the teams had earlier played matches in Navi Mumbai. And the final match will be held at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Where both the teams have played matches against other teams, but will face each other for the first time.
