Australia’s Second-Innings Resistance
Australia recovered to 207 all out in their second innings after a difficult start. Mitchell Starc's tough 58* and Josh Hazlewood's crucial 59-run collaboration at the end of the inning helped raise the total to a respectable amount.
With a brilliant 6 for 28 record, Pat Cummins became the fastest Australian to reach 300 Test wickets.
Markram’s 102*, South Africa dominant chase
South Africa finished chasing 282 at 213 for 2, requiring just 69 more runs with eight wickets remaining.
Aiden Markram led the chase with a cool 102*, his first century in 16 innings. He was hailed by SA batting coach Ashwell Prince as "a man for the big occasion."
Markram and captain Temba Bavuma combined for an undefeated 143-run partnership, the most of the game, despite Bavuma's hamstring pain.
Day 3 Go For South Africa: Need 69 Runs, Still have 8 Wickets In Hand
South Africa is on the verge of winning the WTC trophy with just 69 runs needed and eight wickets left.
In addition to removing the current leaders, a South African victory would permanently remove the ICC's infamous "chokers" label.
