Young stars of IPL auction: Rizvi sold at 42 times higher price, 19-year-old Kushagra bought by DC for ₹ 7.20 crore
The mini auction for the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ended on Tuesday. 10 teams bought 72 players for Rs 230.45 crore. 35 uncapped (players who did not play a single international match) players were also sold, out of which 9 became millionaires.
Young batsman Sameer Rizvi from Uttar Pradesh was the most expensive, he was bought by Chennai for Rs 8.40 crore. Jharkhand's wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Kushagra became part of Delhi for Rs 7.20 crore. He was the most expensive wicketkeeper in the auction.
1. Shubham Dubey: Performed brilliantly in domestic T-20 cricket.
Shubham Dubey is a middle order batsman from Vidarbha. Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 5.80 crore. Dubey got a big price due to his excellent performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 Trophy.
Dubey is an aggressive batsman. In 7 innings of the SMAT tournament, he scored 221 runs at a strike rate of 187.28. He won the match against Bengal by scoring 58 runs in 20 balls while chasing the target of 213 runs. Which was his best innings in the tournament.
2. Sameer Rizvi: Top scorer of UP T-20 League
Sameer Rizvi, who had a base price of Rs 20 lakh, was bought by Chennai Super Kings by paying 42 times more than the base price. They were sold for Rs 8.40 crore. Rizvi plays domestic cricket from UP. The 20-year-old batsman had hit the most number of sixes for Kanpur Superstars in the UP T-20 League.
Rizvi was also the top run scorer of the league, scoring 455 runs in just 9 innings of the tournament by scoring two explosive centuries. In the domestic tournament, Sameer has scored 295 runs for Uttar Pradesh in 11 matches at a strike rate of 134.70.
3. Kumar Kushagra: Has scored double century in Ranji
There was interest from many teams in the auction of Jharkhand wicketkeeper batsman Kumar Kushagra. Ultimately this player was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 7.2 crore.
The 19-year-old was the sixth top scorer in the Deodhar Trophy with 227 runs in 5 innings at a strike rate of 109.13. This also includes the half-century scored by East Zone against South Zone.
Kushagra played an inning of 67 runs in 37 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and helped his team achieve the target of 355 runs against Maharashtra. The right-handed Kushagra was also a part of India's Under-19 World Cup squad in 2020.
At the age of 17, Kushagra scored a double century against Nagaland in the pre-quarterfinals of Ranji Trophy. Then he became the youngest batsman to score 250+ runs in an innings of first class cricket.
4. Robin Minz: Captain of the Jharkhand Under-25 team
Gujarat Titans bought Robin Minz, a player with a base price of Rs 20 lakh, for Rs 3.60 crore. Minz is a left-handed batsman known for his big hitting. He turned to cricket after completing 10th class.
Earlier this year, he came into limelight when Mumbai Indians sent him to England to play cricket. Minz is yet to make his debut in first class cricket, but he has already captained Jharkhand's Under-19 and Under-25 teams.
