The auction for the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) may be held abroad in November. According to a Cricbuzz report, the auction can be held in the third or fourth week of November. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indicated this possibility to the IPL teams.

An IPL source told Cricbuzz that like last year, this time too the auction is likely to be held in the Middle East. Last year's auction was held in Dubai and it would not be a surprise if this time it is held in a Gulf city like Doha or Abu Dhabi. Saudi Arabia, which has been investing heavily in sports including cricket recently, is also interested in hosting the auction.

The last auction was held in Dubai

The IPL 2024 auction took place in Dubai on 23 December. This is the first time that the IPL auction has taken place outside the country.

Teams waiting for retention rules

IPL teams are waiting for the announcement of retention rules before the auction. The board has informed them about the delay in this announcement. These rules are expected to be announced by the end of the month.

Vikram Rathore may join Rajasthan Royals

Coaches who have worked with Rahul Dravid in the Indian team are expected to join various IPL teams. Former India batting coach Vikram Rathore is likely to join Dravid in Rajasthan Royals (RR). Paras Mahambre, who was India's bowling coach during Dravid's tenure, may also join a team in the league. These coaches had turned down the offer of commentary keeping in mind the coaching roles.
