Shreyas Iyer: No place in the team... Will KKR captain's Test career be ruined?

Currently, nothing seems to be going well for Shreyas Iyer, the experienced middle-order batsman of the Indian cricket team. After a disappointing performance in the England Test series earlier this year, Iyer was dropped from the squad. Adding to his woes, the BCCI excluded him from the central contract list this time. Iyer had a crucial opportunity to make his mark in the Duleep Trophy, but he failed to capitalize on it, scoring only 104 runs in 4 innings across two matches. Now, a BCCI official has made a significant statement to The Telegraph, stating that there is no spot for Iyer in the current Test team.

Is the Test Team Door Closed for Iyer?

Speaking about Shreyas Iyer, a BCCI official said, "There is no place for Shreyas in the Test team at the moment. Whose spot would he take? Moreover, his shot selection has been concerning, particularly in the Duleep Trophy. He was well set and then played an unnecessary shot. When you're settled and batting on a flat pitch, you need to make the most of the opportunity."

Another BCCI official added, "Shreyas could join the Mumbai team for the Irani Cup, which starts in Lucknow from October 1. Even if he is selected for the T20 series against Bangladesh, starting October 6, he can still play the Irani Cup and be available for the second T20."

The official further stated, "Even if he doesn't perform well in the Irani Cup, he still has the Ranji Trophy to prove himself. Let's not forget, he was in great form during last year's ODI World Cup before being sidelined by injury. There's still one more round left in the Duleep Trophy, and who knows, he might score a century. It's all about regaining his form."
