Chris Woakes Announces Retirement From International Cricket

After a brilliant 15-year career representing England in all three forms, all-rounder Chris Woakes has formally announced his retirement from international cricket.

Woakes' international career came to an end at the age of 36 after he injured his left shoulder during the fifth Test match against India at The Oval in late July 2025.

In addition to keeping him out of the rest of that game, the injury he did pick up in the England Ashes squard ended his chances of playing in the upcoming Ashes series.

With Woakes' key contract not being renewed, England's team management had already made it clear that he was no longer part of their plans. This change was further supported by the Ashes exclusion.

• In 2011, Woakes made his debut for his country. He represented England in 33 T20 Internationals, 122 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 62 Test matches during his career.
