On 25 July, on day 3 of the 4th test match of India's tour of England 2025, where England scored 544/7, England’s former captain Joe Root scored a massive century of 150. At the end of the 4th day, England scored 544/7, taking the lead by 186.
Day 3 Summary
Joe Root Makes History
After a dominant performance in which he scored 150 off 248 balls, his 38th Test century, Joe Root moved up to second place on the all-time Test run-scorers list, behind Sachin Tendulkar. Also, he is the first player to reach 1,000 Test runs at Old Trafford in its 168-year history.
England Dominates India’s Bowling
After finishing the day at 544/7 in 135 overs, England had a commanding 186-run lead over India's 358 first-innings total.. Ben Stokes, suffering leg cramps, managed a fluent 77 before retiring hurt*, putting on an important partnership with Root.
With a strong 71, Ollie Pope joined Root in a crucial 144-run partnership. The innings was further prolonged by lower-order contributions from Jamie Smith and Liam Dawson (21)*.
India’s Struggles & Injury Setbacks
The injuries to Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, who both hobbled off before tea, seriously weakened India's assault and hurt their bowling.. Mohammed Siraj, the only wicket taken by India's pace battery during the session, finished with figures of 1/105 despite the pain.. Washington Sundar showed promise by taking two wickets in a short spell, but England's surge was too strong for him to contain.
Overview Day 3: England In Diminished, India In Trouble
With Day 4 near, England's batsmen are in a strong position to either force India out of the game or increase the lead past 600.
India's depth of pace resources is overworked, and it appears that they will not be able to recover from this position.
