ENG v IND 2025 4th Test Day 4: KL And Gill Stand, India Fightback With 174/2
Updated - 27-JUL-2025 3:55 IST

On 26 July, on day 4 of the 4th test in India's tour of England 2025 in Manchester, India scored 174/2 with the help of KL Rahul and captain Shubham Gill’s massive innings. At the end of day 4, India scored 174/2 with a 137-run trail.
Day 4 Summary
England’s First Innings: Total Dominance
A crucial 95-run partnership with Brydon Carse, who added 47, and captain Ben Stokes' brilliant 141 off 198 balls propelled England's first innings to a massive 669 all out, their fifth-highest Test total.
After a two-year wait for a century, Stokes achieved a major personal milestone by being the first England captain ever to make a century and take five wickets in the same Test, bringing his run total over 7,000.
With this enormous total, England led India by 311 runs in the first innings. Notably, Stokes' cramp concerns prevented him from bowling on Day 4, which reduced England's bowling options.
India’s Second Innings: Early Collapse, Resilient Recovery
India's response broke apart. India was reduced to 0/2 as Chris Woakes struck twice in two balls in the opening over, dismissing Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal without any runs.
But then KL Rahul (87)* and Shubman Gill (78 at stumps)* had a brilliant partnership. The pair put on an uninterrupted 174-run partnership against disciplined bowling, leading India to 174/2 at stumps, still 137 runs behind.
Overview Day 4: England Still In A Strong Position, But India Will Look For A Draw
England can win the series 2-1 with just one more victory. Aiming for a draw, India will try to bat long and safely. Also, the possibility of rain on Day 5 could disrupt play and increase India's chances of surviving.
