England Pick Liam Dawson For The 4th Test In Manchester
Updated - 16-JUL-2025 5:26 IST

In an unexpected move ahead of the fourth Test match against India at Old Trafford, England has replaced injured spinner Shoaib Bashir with 35-year-old all-rounder Liam Dawson. The decision follows Bashir's fractured finger sustained while fielding during the thrilling Lord's third Test victory, which banned him from playing the rest of the series.
Dawson Career Highlight
After an absence of eight years, Dawson rejoins England's Test team. His last Test participation was in July 2017. While his recent focus has been on white-ball cricket, he has maintained his status as a reliable red-ball performer, taking 21 wickets in nine County Championship games this season and an additional 11 in the Vitality Blast. With almost 10,500 runs and a batting average of about 35, he has an outstanding first-class record. He has also taken 365 wickets at an average of 31.23.
Unchanged In England Seamers
Even if England's seamers, like as Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer, are mostly unchanged, Dawson's addition improves the lower-order batting and provides spin depth, which is especially helpful on the Old Trafford surface.
India tour of England 2025 series, 5-match test series, England led by 2-1. The England v India fourth test will be played on July 23rd in Manchester.
