With a fluid 65, Zak Crawley offered strong support and contributed to the creation of an opening stand that changed the game. Joe Root maintained composure under duress, adding a crucial 53 not out to Jamie Smith's undefeated 44 to form a commanding 71-run partnership. Indian bowlers struggled to take wickets
India put up an excellent fight in the middle session. Prasidh Krishna raised hopes for a comeback early on by taking two quick wickets (Crawley and Pope).
