Fakhar Zaman Fined 10% Match Fees, Protesting Umpire’s Decision

Fakhar Zaman, the opener for Pakistan, was fined 10% of his match money after it was proved that he had disobeyed an umpire's ruling during the most recent international match against Sri Lanka in the Final of  Pakistan Tri-Series 2025. Match officials took disciplinary action after Fakhar walked off the field in the first innings, expressing their disapproval at his expulsion.

ICC Code of Conduct

Fakhar violated Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses "expressing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match," according to the match referee. 

A discipline, an official warning, or a fine of up to 50% of the match cost are the usual maximum penalties for Level 1 offenses. Because the offense was very modest but very evident, the referee in this case deducted 10%.

What Happened on the Field?

The event that occurred when Fakhar was declared out (caught/leg before; include details if necessary). Angry with the decision, he stayed at the crease, shook his head, and talked to the umpire for a short while before returning to the pavilion. 

The match officials judged his response to be severe enough to qualify for a penalty under ICC rules, even if it fell short of an aggressive confrontation.

Immediately after the play, the umpires reported the event to the match referee. Fakhar did not contest the charge; therefore, a formal hearing was not necessary.

Reactions and Impact.

Since the Pakistani squad's management has not made a formal statement, it is believed that they agree with the ICC's ruling. It is thought that Fakhar personally expressed contrition and confirmed the breach. Since there are no suspension points associated with the fine, he is still eligible to play in future games.

In an effort to preserve discipline and respect for on-field officials, the ICC has focused on behavioral violations in recent years. Particularly during high-stress games, even seemingly little actions like long staring, heated debate, or sarcastic clapping might be viewed as a protest.

Fakhar’s Recent Form

In recent months, the left-handed opener has been trying to find consistency. Even though he is still one of Pakistan's most potent white-ball hitters, his output has varied; therefore, every innings is vital to securing his spot in the starting lineup.
