Updated - 28-OCT-2025 6:25 IST

The much-anticipated return of South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma to the Test team for the upcoming South Africa tour of India 2025 is a huge boost for the Proteas ahead of a difficult task.
After recovering fully from a hamstring injury that kept him out of previous international matches, Bavuma will captain the team in the prestigious home Test series against India.
South Africa will play a two-test match series against India. The 1st test on 14- 18 November in Kolkata.
Comeback After Injury Layoff
Bavuma missed multiple domestic games and South Africa's tour of Bangladesh due to the injury he incurred earlier in the year. His comeback coincides with South Africa's efforts to strengthen its standing in the current cycle of the World Test Championship 2025-27. He has been exercising hard to restore match fitness, and medical personnel have approved him to return to full cricketing activities.
The selectors emphasized the steadiness he adds to the Test setup and voiced trust in his leadership and batting skills. Bavuma is an essential member of the team, particularly in the lengthier format, thanks to his middle-order experience and composed demeanor under duress.
Focus on India Challenge
Two Test matches as part of the World Test Championship calendar are anticipated during South Africa's tour of India. Although South Africa has historically done well at home, India has recently reduced the gap by winning important games abroad. The match between the two teams frequently results in fierce, competitive cricket.
