Indian economy earned ₹11,736 crore from World Cup 2023: ICC report

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said that the 2023 ODI World Cup benefited India's economy by Rs 11,736 crore. The ICC revealed this in a report on Wednesday. During the World Cup, about 48 thousand people also got full time and part time jobs.

All the matches of the World Cup were held in India, Australia won the title by defeating India in the final. India had won all 10 matches till the semi-finals, but the team had to face defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The ICC said that the Nelson Company of New York prepared a research report based on the information received from the ICC and BCCI. The ICC said that India's business sector benefited greatly from upgrading the stadium and providing new facilities for the tournament.

12.50 lakh people went to the stadium to watch the match

The ICC said that a record 12.50 lakh people went to the stadium to watch the ODI World Cup. Out of which 75% spectators came to watch the ODI World Cup match for the first time. Not only this, 19% foreigners came to India for the first time only to watch the World Cup. Whereas 55% foreign spectators had come to India earlier also.

Tourist destinations also benefited

The arrival of international spectators also benefited the tourist destinations in India. Tourist destinations benefited by Rs 2,361 crore during the World Cup. During this time, cities with stadiums earned a profit of Rs 2132 crore.

48 thousand people got employment

The ICC further said that about 48 thousand people got full time and part time jobs from the Men's Cricket World Cup. Due to which the hospitality sector benefited by Rs 151 crore. While branding and team kits generated a revenue of Rs 593 crore for the media business. At the same time, revenue of Rs 7233 crore was generated from travel, transportation and food.

The World Cup was held in 10 cities

The 2023 ODI World Cup was organized in 10 cities of India from 5 October to 19 November. 10 teams played 9-9 matches in the league stage. The first semi-final was played between India and New Zealand in Mumbai, while the second semi-final was played between Australia and South Africa in Kolkata. Australia won the title by defeating India in the final by 6 wickets in Ahmedabad.
