IPL franchises said - hold mega auction every 5 years: Made more demands from BCCI

IPL franchises have demanded from BCCI to hold mega auction every 5 years. Till now mega auction is held every 3 years. The board had organized a feedback session on mega auction on Wednesday. Officials of all 10 franchises participated in it. Franchisees demanded retention of players from 4 to 6 and 8 right to match cards.

A senior official of a franchise told Cricinfo that mega auction is more beneficial to be held in 5 years instead of 3 years. This will give enough time to the franchise to prepare uncapped players.

Made this demand from BCCI

  • Mega auction is held every three years in IPL, but now the franchise has demanded to extend this time by 2 years.

  • Many teams have been asked to retain 6 players. Currently, franchises can retain 4 players.

  • 8 Right to Match (RTM) cards should be given, currently 3 Right to Match cards are given.

  • The right to increase or decrease the auction price of players according to their performance.

  • Another suggestion was given by the official regarding salary. According to this, the franchise should be given the right to increase or decrease the salary of the players directly on the basis of their performance between the 2 mega auctions.

This will give the teams a chance to retain their big players. Also, those players will benefit who were earlier bought at the base price or at a lower amount. For example, Rinku Singh, who was bought by Kolkata for 55 lakhs.

Demand to retain the captain

Teams should be allowed to retain a big player or the captain. Apart from this, other players should be allowed to be included as Right to Match. Right to Match was used in the 2017 mega auction, when teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 5 players by combining retention and RTM.

Players' performance challenged the teams

This time in IPL 2024, some players have increased the tension of the franchise. There are many players who have now become match winners and were bought at a low price. This time the teams will be ready to keep a big amount for those players. It will be a challenge for the teams to retain such players in their camp. There can be competition in the mega auction for these players.
