Jamie Overton Joins England Squad For Decisive Fifth Test At The Oval

Jamie Overton has been added to England's 15-man roster for the fifth and final Test match against India, which is set to start at The Oval on July 31, 2025. He has been called up to the Test team twice since making his only debut at Headingley in June 2022, when he scored an impressive 97 and took wickets in both innings.

Why Overton Now?

After four demanding Test matches in only seven weeks, which left England's bowling attack exhausted, the decision was made. Before the final, captain Ben Stokes emphasized the need for "fresh legs." After Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, and Brydon Carse put in a lot of work throughout the series, Overton is viewed as a welcome addition.

Career & Fitness Overview

Overton, a 31-year-old fast bowling all-rounder who plays county cricket for Surrey, most recently played for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 Indian Premier League.

After breaking his little finger during India's recent ODI tour of the West Indies in late May, England's medical staff have been reviewing him daily and have given him the all-clear to play.
