Jasprit Bumrah has won the Cricketer of the Year 2024 award. He left behind Australia's Travis Head, England's Joe Root and Harry Brook in the race for the award. The ICC announced the award on Tuesday evening. Bumrah also won the Test Cricketer of the Year award on Monday.
An Indian received the 'Sir Garfield Sobers Award' after 5 years. Virat Kohli last won it in 2018. The Women's Cricketer of the Year award was won by New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr. She played an important role in the team's Women's T20 World Cup win last year.
Jasprit Bumrah is also Player of the Tournament in T20 World Cup
Jasprit Bumrah played only 2 formats in 2024, but he performed brilliantly in both. He took 15 wickets in 8 matches of the 2024 T20 World Cup, for which he was also selected as the Player of the Tournament. He conceded runs at an economy of just 4.17, with the help of which the team won the T20 World Cup after 17 years.
Bumrah Also won the Test Cricketer of the Year award
Bumrah also won the Test Cricketer of the Year award. He took 71 wickets in 13 Tests last year. On the Australia tour that ended in January this year, he also achieved 900 rating points in the ICC Test bowlers rankings. He is the number-1 bowler in the Test rankings.
Bumrah took 32 wickets in 5 Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. For which he also received the Player of the Series award. Not only this, while captaining the team in the Perth Test, he also gave the team its only victory on the tour.
