Mehidy Hasan Miraz Appointed Bangladesh ODI Captain

June 13, 2025, Dhaka Star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named captain of the men's One Day International (ODI) side by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), replacing Najmul Hossain Shanto in a major leadership move.

The 27-year-old Mehidy Hasan will take over as captain for the next 12 months, starting on July 2 with the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka. This change shows the BCB's plan to use Mehidy's skill to lead Bangladesh through a crucial phase in limited-overs cricket.

Mehidy ODI Achievement

Mehidy is the first Bangladeshi to reach the 1,000-run/100-wicket double, joining greats like Shakib and Mortaza, with 1,617 runs and 110 wickets in 105 ODIs. His consistency is demonstrated by his current rating of No. 4 among ICC ODI all-rounders. During Shanto's absence, Miraz previously captained the team in four ODIs, accumulating invaluable leadership experience.
