Men’s T20I World Cup 2026: Archer Back In England Squad
Updated - 30-DEC-2025 8:23 IST

With the announcement of a provisional team that includes one of their most effective—and injury-plagued—fast bowlers, Jofra Archer, England has made a bold statement in their preparations for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has supported the Sussex pacer as part of their World Cup ambitions despite recent disappointments.
Archer’s Comeback Story
After a dismal string of injuries that hampered his career until 2025, Archer's selection represents a major reversal. He was sidelined for the rest of the Test series and the next white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in January due to a left-side strain he sustained during the Ashes in Australia.
But by including him in the 15-man preliminary squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February and March, selectors have demonstrated their confidence in his capacity to bounce back and have an influence on England's World Cup campaign.
As he continues his rehabilitation, Archer will not travel to Sri Lanka for the three ODIs and three T20Is that take place before the world tournament. Instead, while Archer returns to full fitness in England, teammates like Brydon Carse are anticipated to fill the seam bowling position on that tour.
