India fast bowler Mohammed Shami is set to return to the field after almost a year. He has been included in Bengal's squad for the fifth round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Bengal will take on Madhya Pradesh in Indore from November 13.
Shami will return to cricket after almost a year with this match. He has been away from the field since the ODI World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad last year.
Earlier, Shami's fitness was being closely monitored ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, although he was not selected in the squad for the five-Test series. Just before that squad was selected, Shami had said that he hoped to fly to Australia after playing one or two Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal.
Shami played his last international match against Australia on 19 November 2023 in the form of ODI World Cup final. Shami went to England in January this year and got his ankle surgery done. He did rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for the last several months. He has played 64 Test matches for India. Shami has 229 Test wickets to his name.
The Australian team has not been able to beat India in the last 4 series. The team got the last victory in the 2014-15 season. Then the Australian team captained by Smith defeated India 2-1. After that the Indian team has won all the four series.
