Shubman Gill becomes number-1 batsman in ICC ODI rankings: overtook Pakistan's Babar Azam

Indian opener Shubman Gill has become the number-1 batsman in the ICC ODI rankings. He overtook former Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Gill was in second place last week. The ICC released the latest rankings on Wednesday. In bowling, Sri Lanka's Mahish Theekshana has overtaken Afghanistan's Rashid Khan to come on top.

Four Indian batsmen are in the top-10 in the batting rankings. Captain Rohit Sharma remains at third and Virat Kohli at sixth place. Shreyas Iyer has gained one place, he has reached the ninth position.
Gill scored half-centuries in the first two ODIs and a century in the third of the recently played three-match series against England, which benefited him. He scored 259 runs in three matches. This is the second time Gill has achieved the number-1 ranking in ODI cricket. He overtook Babar to take the top rank in the middle of the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup.

Theekshana reaches the top
Sri Lankan spinner Mahish Theekshana has reached the top in the bowlers rankings. He has overtaken Afghanistan's Rashid Khan. There are two Indians in the top-10 in the bowlers rankings - Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Siraj. Kuldeep has gained one place. Siraj remains at the 10th position.
All-rounders ranking: one Indian
There was no change in the top-5 of the ODI all-rounders rankings. Only one Indian, Ravindra Jadeja, is included in the top-10. Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi remains at the top.
