Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 63 runs in the first Test match being played in Galle. On Monday, on the fifth day, New Zealand's team could add only 4 runs to their yesterday's score of 207 and were all out for 211 runs. Spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was awarded the Player of the Match for taking 9 wickets in the match.
Chasing the target of 275 runs, New Zealand did not have a good start. The team lost its first wicket for 6 runs. Rachin Ravindra scored the highest 92 runs for the team. In the second innings, Prabath Jayasuriya took 5 and Ramesh Mendis took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka, while Dhananjay de Silva and Asitha Fernando got 1-1 wickets.
Earlier, Sri Lanka was all out for 309 runs in the second innings before the second session of the fourth day. Sri Lanka scored 305 runs in the first innings and in reply, New Zealand scored 340 runs in the first innings.
