Tom Latham Ruled Out, Santer Will Lead Second Test Against Zimbabwe

G11-Fantasy Cricket Prediction for Today's Match

The loss of experienced starter Tom Latham to an injured hamstring has delivered New Zealand a serious setback ahead of the second Test match against Zimbabwe. Mitchell Santner, who will be captaining the team for the first time in Test cricket, will take over in his place.

Injury Update: Latham's Setback

During the last session of the first Test in Harare, Latham, a vital member of the Black Caps' top order, sustained the injury. He will miss the rest of the series after scans revealed a grade one hamstring tear. New Zealand fast bowler Will O'Rourke also ruled due to a back ailment and will travel back to New Zealand for treatment.

Mitchell Santner: A Surprise Yet Steady Choice

The selectors have turned to Mitchell Santner because Tim Southee is not in the squad for this tour, and regular Test captain Kane Williamson is still on paternity leave. Also, Zak Foaulker will play his maiden test match. Santner has led in limited-overs formats and has captained New Zealand in ODIs and T20Is, despite not being a mainstay in the Test format.

Looking Ahead: Second Test in Bulawayo

The Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, which is renowned for providing extra support to spinners, will host the second Test. This might make Santner's involvement as a player and captain even more advantageous.

Under Santner's direction, New Zealand, who are ahead 1-0 in the two-match series, will want to complete a perfect sweep.
