The Indian women's team had to face defeat in their first match in the T20 World Cup. New Zealand defeated India by 58 runs in the match played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

New Zealand won the toss and batted and scored 160 runs. In response, the Indian team was all out for 102 runs in 19 overs. Earlier, the Kiwi team won the toss and scored 160 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimer gave the team a good start. There was a partnership of 67 runs for the first wicket between the two. Sophie Devine remained unbeaten after scoring 57 and Maddie Green 5 runs. Apart from them, Georgia Plimer contributed 34, Suzie Bates 27 and Brooke Holiday contributed 16 runs. For India, Renuka Singh took 2 wickets, Arundhati and Asha Shobhana took 1-1 wickets.
