Young batting star Shafali Verma has been picked to replace Pratika Rawal, who has been sidelined due to an injury, in a significant change to India's Women's ODI World Cup 2025 roster. After medical talks with the team's physiotherapist and management, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued the statement.

Pratika Rawal Ruled Out Due to Injury

Before India's key group-stage matches, Pratika Rawal, a possible all-rounder who made an impression with her achievements in domestic cricket and recent international appearances, suffered a stress strain during a training session.

She had to withdraw from the tournment when the medical staff recommended rest and rehabilitation despite early hopes of recovery. She had developed into an effective weapon with both bat and ball; thus, her absence leaves a hole in India's middle order and bowling depth.

Shafali Verma Returns to the World Cup Setup

Shafali Verma, one of India’s most explosive openers, makes a comeback to the ODI World Cup squad after almost missing out on selection. Known for her bold style and powerful stroke play, Shafali’s selection adds firepower to India’s top rank.

The 21-year-old has already shown herself on the global stage with significant performances in T20 World Cups and bilateral series.

BCCI’s Official Statement

BCCI gave a statement, they said:

“Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 due to injury. The All-India Women’s Selection Committee has named Shafali Verma as her replacement. The BCCI wishes Pratika a speedy recovery and believes Shafali’s inclusion will strengthen India’s batting lineup.”

Impact on India’s Campaign

India, right now aiming for a semifinal berth in the World Cup, will benefit from Shafali’s attacking abilities at the top of the order. Her presence could also allow the management to experiment with batting combinations, potentially combining her with Smriti Mandhana or Yastika Bhatia to set the tone for high-scoring beginnings.

While Rawal’s injury is a terrible blow, Shafali’s return offers India tremendous energy and expertise in high-pressure contests.
