Asia Cup 2025: Hasaranga Back In The Sri Lanka Squad For The Asia Cup 2025
Updated - 29-AUG-2025 5:49 IST

Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was declared fit and added to the final squad, giving Sri Lanka a significant boost ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 cricket. As the island nation fights for regional dominance, the selectors announced the 16-member squad on Thursday(28 August), striking a balance between experienced competitors and a few up-and-coming players.
Hasaranga’s Return is a Big Positive
Just before the match, Hasaranga, who had been out of commission for several months due to recurrent illnesses, passed fitness tests. His arrival will provide the lower-middle order more depth and greatly bolster Sri Lanka's spin department. Hasaranga is widely regarded as one of the top T20 bowlers in Asia, and his range and ability to take wickets make him a crucial part of Sri Lanka's strategy.
Squad Highlights
The team will be captained by Charith Asalanka, with aggressive batsman Kusal Mendis and seasoned opener Pathum Nissanka serving as the core of the batting lineup. Seamers Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera will lead the pace attack in the bowling department, with Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana providing support in the spin unit.
Sri Lanka will play their first Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on September 13 and then face Hong Kong in a high-stakes match on September 15
