India's Dominant Batting Display
After his 269 in the first innings, Shubman Gill once again stole the show with a spectacular 161 off 162 balls. He became the fifth player in Test history to reach 400+ runs in a match with his match total of 430.
He also broke Sunil Gavaskar's 54-year-old record of 344 runs in a Test, which he had previously held with Rishabh Pant (65) and Ravindra Jadeja (69*). KL Rahul scored a consistent 55 as well.
India declared at 427/6, giving England a huge target of 608 runs.
England’s Challenging Chase Begins
After the declaration, England faltered to 72/3 by stumps. Akash Deep claimed important wickets from Ben Duckett, Joe Root, and Zak Crawley (duck) to Mohammed Siraj.
With seven wickets remaining, England was 536 runs short after their top order swiftly fell apart. It is historically impossible to reach a target exceeding 600; very few people have ever succeeded.
