Jay Shah announcement - IPL players will also get match fees; ₹7.50 lakh per match
From the next season in IPL, players will also be given match fees. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced on Saturday evening that from now on, every player included in the playing-11 in IPL will get Rs 7.50 lakh per match.
The player who plays all the matches of the season will be given Rs 1.05 crore separately in addition to his price. Jay Shah said that the match fee will be given by the franchise itself. All 10 franchise teams will allot a separate fund of Rs 12.60 crore in the season for match fees.
For the first time in the 17-year history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), it has been decided to pay match fees to the players. Match fees will be given to foreign players along with Indian players. Announcing this, Jay Shah said that this is a new era for our players and IPL.
For example, Gujarat Titans pays Rs 20 lakh per season to its team opener Sai Sudarshan. If he plays all the league matches of the season, then he will now get Rs 1.05 crore along with Rs 20 lakh. That is, at the end of the season, he will get Rs 1.25 crore from the franchise.
India's franchise tournament IPL is being played since 2008. In 2024, the 17th season of the league was played between 10 teams, in which one team played 14 matches in the league stage. At the same time, including the playoff matches, the teams also play 15 to 17 matches.
The player who plays all the matches in the league stage will get a match fee of Rs 1.05 crore for 14 matches. Whereas, 1.12 crore will be given for playing 15 matches, 1.20 crore for playing 16 matches and 1.27 crore for playing 17 matches. That is, if the league's most expensive player Mitchell Starc plays all the matches from KKR, then at the end of the season, the franchise will give him Rs 26.03 crore.
It is believed that this is being done to make the domestic cricketers who are sold at low prices financially strong. Because many teams play very few matches after buying domestic players. In such a situation, if the player plays even 2 or 3 matches, he will get 15 to 22 lakh rupees separately in addition to his price.
However, match fees will be given to all the players. That is, crorepati players will also get the benefit of match fees, this will inspire big players to play more and more matches. Due to which the level of the league will also be maintained.
In the example, we saw that if Mitchell Starc plays the entire season, he will get Rs 26.03 crore. Which will be Rs 6.03 crore more than the winning prize of IPL. In IPL, the winner is given Rs 20 crore and the runner-up is given Rs 13 crore.
The 18th season of IPL can start in the last week of March next year. This time there is a mega auction for the tournament. Its dates and retention policy have not been disclosed yet. However, reports believe that along with retaining 5 players, teams will also be able to use the Right to Match card for one player in the mega auction.
