Purpose: World Cup Warm-up
This brief visit serves as the last preparations for both teams ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which begins in early February and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan will play all of its World Cup games in Sri Lanka due to the tournament's hybrid hosting format; therefore, this T20I series is important for adjusting to local conditions.
For Sri Lanka, it also offers a last chance to evaluate combinations and pitch conditions at home before the global event. Dambulla has been selected as the neutral location for all three games because major venues co-hosting the World Cup are still undergoing reconstruction.
