Updated - 16-JUN-2025 5:47 IST

For the upcoming two test matches in the Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2025., Sri Lanka Cricket has selected an impressive Test team, with off-spinner Akila Dananjaya's comeback serving as a major highlight. After putting up steady performances in domestic cricket, the 31-year-old spinner, who last played in a Test match in 2018, has unexpectedly been called up.
Selectors Focus on Spin and Experience
Pramodya Wickramasinghe managed Sri Lanka's selection committee, which selected a spin-heavy team to battle Bangladesh's subcontinental environment. Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis, who have both been instrumental in Sri Lanka's recent home Test victory, are included in the team in addition to Dananjaya.
This test series is Part of a WTC 2025-27 cycle
For Sri Lanka, who are now in mid-table, the Test series against Bangladesh is an important assignment because it is a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 cycle.
